We pitched for community funds and this is what happened.
On 1st July 2026 we’re running the first intensive Get In education workshops at a secondary school in Liverpool. As the pilot is unpaid we needed some financial support to be able to give each student (180 of them) a resource, and some cool stickers, to continue the learning after the session. We’d heard about Liverpool Soup and decided to pitch our idea.
‘Liverpool SOUP is a community crowdfunding event, which gives you the opportunity to learn more about the inspiring projects being run across the Liverpool City Region and how to support them.’ So, buy a ticket to attend, get delicious soup and bread, an insight into the phenomenal grassroots community-enhancing projects going on in your area, AND get a vote on which project wins the proceeds from the evening? So simple, so cool.
We pitched our Get In resource idea and were invited to pitch to the room on the night. We were supported by Louisa and the team from the very first email, to hugs all around at the end of the night. While we felt nervous getting up there in front of everyone, the whole room wanted us to succeed. Asking questions about the project, how the funds would be spent, who its for, what impact we hope to have.
It’ll come as no suprise that we made firm friends with the other pitchers and half the room on the night. And while the unstoppable Dot Rogers won the evening’s microfund (£1084), we we’re blown away to be able to afford our schools resources from the runners up funding. Community winning, all round.
We’d already bonded with Dot before the pitches began. We’d been waxing lyrical about our love of vintage and secondhand before fellow SwapShop pitcher, Poppy arrived, again, friendship confirmed. Liverpool Soup volunteer Cat joined us for a natter which led to sharing tips and advice on various health matters. Live music, yep, it’s not just soup and community impact, artist Grace Elizabeth was phenomenal and gained 5 new fans (specifically a enamoured 11 year old). The staff at Oh Me Oh My were so lovely and accommodating too.
It’s now Monday morning and we’ve just sent our schools newspaper resource design to the printers with BIGGEST smiles on our faces in the office. We’ll be shouting from the rooftops about Liverpool Soup for a long time to come. The next event is planned for October, but it can only happen with sponsorship. Interested? Drop Louisa and the team a line here.
